Ki-o-rahi
Yesterday room 1 and 2 went to Kaikohe East school to play ki-o-rahi.You play ki-o-rahi with two teams the taniwha and the kioma,
in the game there are seven posts that represent the seven stars of matariki, in the middle of the of the posts is a bucket around it is two circles, the taniwha score points by chucking the ball at the bucket from the outside of the smaller circle kioma are not allowed in this circle but they do have two defenders defending the bucket, kioma score there points by running around touching the seven posts with the ball then they run in to the middle circle and touch the ball down to score points, in the beginning of the game kioma stand in another circle called te marama and chuck the ball to there team mates in the middle without taniwha catching it, but taniwha have to stand out side the lines down to the middle from te marama and thats how you play ki-o-rahi.
